I am going to be honest, I once set pasta on fire. My spaghetti literally went up in flames. So understandably I have not been the biggest fan of cooking. Although I have mastered the art of making plain pasta since my…debacle… I have realized that at 21 years old I should be able to make some easy, healthy meals on a budget.
For Christmas I asked for “A cookbook for dummies. I mean it, Mom. Dummies. You know I can’t cook.” So I received a cookbook by Mark Bittman entitled, “How to Cook Everything: the basics” So far I have looked through it and it seems on par with my level of knowledge (it explains how to scramble eggs among other things most people don’t need a cookbook for).
College kids, I know you don’t want to admit it but you don’t know how to cook either. Maybe you haven’t set pasta on fire but I know you aren’t having enough fruits, veggies, or protein. My goal is to share my cooking journey. Learning to cook is a process but it is a valuable life skill. More importantly, we should be learning to cook healthy, balanced meals because we only have one body and need to take care of it. You can work out all you want but at the end of the day your diet has a major impact on your health, both physically and mentally.
